The Challenge
In 2019, a well-known processor in the Baltics approached us with a specific request – to build integrations with Google Pay and Apple Pay services. Our client needed a service-ready system that could seamlessly integrate with their CMS and provide tokenization and token lifecycle management services to all the issuers they were serving.
To enable Google Pay device tokenization, I-TSP (Issuer – Token Service Provider) connection is required. I-TSP is used for processing all pre-digitization requests, before issuing and delivering the token. Institutions that wish to enable Google Pay need a Visa VTS and Mastercard MDES certified partner to build I-TSP interfaces. Our client chose D8 Corporation due to our previous experience in this field (for example, check out the MCBP case study).
Solution We Offered
We offered Tokenization Platform – our complete ecosystem for building tokenization projects of any complexity. The I-TSP module is part of the Tokenization Platform and allows seamlessly connecting to one or many issuer systems. The I-TSP module processes pre-digitization requests, validates cardholders’ data, and checks for any usage restrictions. The beauty of using Google Pay, Apple Pay, or any other branded wallet is that they take complete care of wallet management and token distribution. What’s more, users have the flexibility to add a single card to multiple wallets on different devices or Google Accounts. It makes it convenient for them to manage their payment options. Additionally, Android devices support multiple users, but only one user can be active at a time.
On the other hand, Apple Pay works in a similar way, offering users the flexibility of using tokens across all of their devices. In-App provisioning feature of Apple Pay allows users to easily initiate token issuing process directly from any iOS app. In the Google Pay case, there is a similar in-app provisioning feature.
Our client asked us to implement in-app provisioning for both Google Pay and Apple Pay, as it greatly improves customer experience and facilitates a more active use of tokens. Tokenization Platform also comes with a unified Operator GUI, connected directly to VTS and MDES via APIs. This allows customer service reps to process incoming requests more efficiently from a single dashboard. Hence, no need to switch between multiple systems and pay for extra users at Visa and Mastercard portals.
Overall, our integrated system provides seamless support for both Google Pay and Apple Pay services, enabling issuers to offer secure and convenient payment options to their customers while maintaining control over tokenization and token lifecycle management.
The Results
- Successfully launched Apple Pay connected to pan-Baltics issuing system
- Implemented in-app provisioning for both wallet platforms
- Successfully launched Google Pay connected to pan-Baltics issuing system
- Implemented a single Operator GUI for managing tokens on both platforms
